Our training courses:
We train specialist volunteers enabling them to professionally record biographies and life stories on audio. Our training is currently delivered remotely via Zoom over the course of one day.
Our training course covers the art of active listening, chronological life story interviewing techniques and explains the remote recording process.
Our experienced trainers also address the emotional demands of the role and explain how to deal with difficult and unexpected situations.
Having completed the training, our specialist volunteers will also have a good understanding of the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) as it relates to confidentiality and data privacy.
Hospice Biographers will:
Be ready and able to record biographies and life stories.
Have had practical experience of the remote recording process.
Have increased their knowledge of communication skills.
Be able to recognise difficult situations, safeguarding issues and understand the importance of boundaries for the wellbeing for all those involved in the recording process.
Mentoring
After our training event we offer a mentoring service to support key staff and our specialist volunteers.
This includes phone contact, emails and remote video calls as appropriate.
Confidentiality and GDPR
All our biographies and life stories are strictly confidential. We do not keep any recordings.
We comply with GDPR legislation and no personal information is recorded by us.
